ASCE Project of the Year

Carson City’s Downtown Streetscape Improvement Project was named the 2017 Transportation Project of the Year, by the American Society of Civil Engineers Truckee Meadows Branch. This prestigious award is judged by industry professionals, members of NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association.

The project spanned 14 blocks of Carson Street, created an open air plaza (McFadden Plaza), updated event power, and replaced all water, sewer, and storm utilities. Not only were utility and surface improvements desperately needed, but Carson City sought to make downtown a destination again. With this revitalization, Downtown Carson Street can now be recognized as a Complete Street.

“Complete Streets are for everyone. They are designed and operated to enable safe access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and transit riders of all ages and abilities. Complete Streets make it easy to cross the street, walk to shops, and bicycle to work. They allow buses to run on time and make it safe for people to walk.” –

Through the hard work and dedication of the team and partners at Carson City and Q&D, the Downtown Streetscape Improvement Project was completed within budget and schedule and is an award-winning legacy project that will be enjoyed by many future generations.
